Our latest scientific publication, titled “Combining methods for detection of bycatch hotspot areas of marine megafauna species in and around critical rookeries and foraging areas”, has been published in Marine Environmental Research. The study focuses on identifying high-risk bycatch hotspots for marine turtles and seabirds in the Ionian sea by combining satellite tracking data with local ecological knowledge from fisher interviews. It maps fishing activity across the island and highlights the urgent need for the establishment of a new National Marine Park.
This research was carried out within the framework of the Caretta²Zakynthos project, which is funded by WWF Greece under the Greek Wildlife Alliance initiative.
