As part of its ongoing public engagement strategy, the LIFE MareNatura documentary project made a recent appearance on the UpDate TV show on Creta TV, hosted by journalist Sotia Pentedimou.
The interview provided an opportunity to present the project’s objectives and progress to a wider regional audience, while highlighting the crucial link between science, policy, and public awareness.
The panel of guests included Panagiotis Kasapidis, Coordinator of LIFE MareNatura from the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR), Nadia Andreanidou, Programmes & Policy Officer at MEDASSET, and Roberto Lo Monaco, director of the LIFE MareNatura documentary.
The discussion focused on the project’s central goals: protecting marine biodiversity across the Mediterranean and ensuring that scientific research is translated into effective, enforceable marine conservation policies. Through detailed field missions across key Greek marine regions, the documentary captures the scientific, technical, and institutional dimensions of conservation work—from underwater surveys and species monitoring to policy advocacy and institutional collaboration.
The guests also shared behind-the-scenes insights from the filming process, offering a glimpse into the challenges and discoveries that have shaped the production. The interview emphasized the documentary’s dual role: as both a scientific communication tool and a vehicle for increasing public understanding of the pressures facing Mediterranean marine ecosystems.
