Conservation is not an issue of scientists, NGOs and official authorities only. Local communities, people, should and can be actively engaged and contribute to marine conservation. They can be part of the solution.
For this reason, MEDASSET and Dr. Enerit Sacdanaku have developed specific tools that allow citizens to recognise sea turtle presence and increase detection of any nesting activity occurring across Albania. The tools provide a species ID guide, how to recognise adult and hatchling tracks, what to do if you come across a stranded turtle (alive and dead) and a list of contacts of authorities and organisations you can call.
The tools have been developed in the framework of the MAVA funded project ‘Conservation of Marine Turtles of the Mediterranean Region’. Please see and use the short video and the leaflet in english below.
