The educational workshop, titled “Safe Release of Marine Species and Protection of Fishing Gear,” was successfully held as part of the Caretta²Zakynthos project at the Department of Environment, Ionian University, in Zakynthos. The primary goal of the event was to unite the local fishing community, academics, and representatives from environmental organizations to foster an open dialogue on the impacts of bycatch.
Esteemed speakers Dr. Charalambos Dimitriadis, Dr. George Karris, and Dr. Anastasia Komninou shared innovative solutions aimed at reducing bycatch and ensuring the safe release of marine species.
The event culminated in a productive discussion, addressing critical topics such as release methods, the challenges marine species face in Zakynthos, and the difficulties encountered by local fishermen.
This workshop underscored the vital role of collaboration between the local community and environmental experts in the preservation of marine life.
